Nickelodeon Partners with Roblox and Kids Relief to Teach Kids How to Spread Love and Kindness

Nickelodeon wants to encourage kids to spread kindness in the real world—and in the metaverse.

Today, Comic Relief US announced its second annual Kids Relief campaign in partnership with Nickelodeon. Titled “Game to Change the World,” the interactive and virtual-to-real-world campaign aims to empower kids to do good deeds in reality and online.

As part of the campaign, kids can go on hybrid missions digitally on Roblox and in real life from Aug. 27 to Sept. 20.

The effort builds upon the Kids Relief initiative held on the gaming platform last year, where the charity joined forces with Wonder Works Studio to create a metaverse experience called "Solarpunk Simulator," as well as an online concert featuring TikTok artist BoyWithUke.

Comic Relief U.S. CEO Alison Moore emphasized the project's enhanced scale in a statement, calling Nickelodeon the perfect partner to drive awareness and donations.

She also discussed the importance of building safe virtual communities for children to interact.

This latest campaign utilizes experiential marketing to create immersive and interactive experiences within the realm of Roblox, engaging consumers with the brand.

By giving kids and families an opportunity to make memories online and in the real world, it's guaranteed to leave a lasting impression.

The campaign is divided into three phases open for both children and adults, with the first being a collaboration with two of Nickelodeon's licensed Roblox games.

From August 30 to September 13, kids can enter the Kids Relief Simulator multiverse to go on a scavenger hunt across different worlds, such as SpongeBob Simulator and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Battle Tycoon.

Meanwhile, the campaign's second phase is a full music festival within the world of Roblox. Beginning on September 13, it features a stellar lineup of performers,

For the final phase, Kids Relief U.S. will partner with Nickelodeon's advocacy platform Our World to enable kids to organize local programs to help their communities, such as drives, collections, and volunteering programs.

This initiative underscores the massive marketing potential of Roblox, which is one of the most-played games in the world. Notably, the company reported over 32 million daily active users under the age of 13 in this year alone.

Earlier in July, the platform collaborated with Coach to launch the high fashion brand's first ever virtual collection.

That same month also saw the release of "Shrek Swamp Tycoon," made in collaboration with DreamWorks.

Hollywood Arby's shutters doors after more than 5 decades in business following minimum Wage Hike

The Arby’s restaurant on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, famous for its enormous, neon-clad hat sign, has shuttered its doors after 55 years. Its last day of operation came earlier this year.

On a Monday, at the back of the lot, Gary Husch — general manager of the Arby’s and son-in-law of its original owner — was carting out trash and caught a reporter staring at the bones of the drive-through menu.

The menu was already a polyptych of long, fluorescent tubes. The Arby’s marquee, sprawled with advertisements for the chain’s affordable, slow-roasted beef sandwiches a few days ago, now reads: “Farewell Hollywood. TY for 55 great years.”

“You know, they’re not making those signs anymore,” Husch said. “It was the 150th Arby’s location ever opened.”

Since its opening in January 1969, the Hollywood Arby’s has had a single owner, Marilyn Leviton, who is 91 years old and Husch’s mother-in-law.

Husch said that the Arby’s was simply no longer sustainable. He pointed to a combination of pandemic fallout in a changing neighborhood, rising food costs and the recent law that raised the minimum wage of fast-food workers in California.

“The customer count has gone down over the last few years. A lot of the offices around this area are empty now, and we’re just not getting the same foot traffic we did before,” Husch said. “With inflation, food costs have gone way up and the $20-an-hour minimum wage has been the nail in the coffin.”

Leviton was active in the business till the very end, he added.

“Truth is, I think it was the pandemic that did us in,” she told KTLA News recently. “I really feel we would have closed during the pandemic [if it weren’t] for the federal loans.”

California’s new law that creates a separate minimum wage applicable only to fast food restaurant employees took effect on April 1, 2024. Under Labor Code Section 1475 (LC 1475), this minimum wage is $20 per hour. It represents a significant increase from the current statewide minimum wage of $16 that went into effect at the beginning of the year. Many local jurisdictions within the state already have a minimum wage above $16 per hour, but none as high as $20 per hour.

What do you think? Did the owners of the restaurant close it down because of expenses OR do you think they didn't want to pay the hard workers that extra coin?

Hollywood Wake Up Call: Success Is Not Success

Success in Hollywood and the entertainment industry can often be perceived as superficial or temporary due to various factors:

  • 1. **Subjectivity of Success**: Success can mean different things to different people. For some, it might be box office numbers, while for others, it might be critical acclaim or longevity in the industry.

  • 2. **High Competition**: The entertainment industry is highly competitive, with many talented individuals vying for the same opportunities. Achieving success can feel fleeting when new talents continuously emerge.

  • 3. **Public Scrutiny**: Celebrities often face intense scrutiny from the media and the public, which can undermine their achievements. A successful project can quickly be overshadowed by negative press or personal controversies.

  • 4. **Changing Trends**: The entertainment landscape is constantly evolving. What is popular or successful today may not resonate tomorrow, leading to a lack of sustained success.

  • 5. **Mental Health Struggles**: Many successful individuals in the industry struggle with mental health issues, which can challenge their perception of success and fulfillment.

  • 6. **Behind-the-Scenes Dynamics**: Success often involves collaboration, and many behind-the-scenes contributors may not receive recognition, leading to a skewed perception of who achieves success.

  • 7. **Commercial vs. Artistic Success**: There can be a divide between commercial success (box office hits) and artistic success (critically acclaimed works). This dichotomy can complicate the narrative of what it means to be truly successful.

In essence, while outwardly glamorous, success in Hollywood is often complex and layered, making it feel less authentic or sustainable.

Warner Bros. Discovery is Shutting Down Boomerang Streaming Service

Warner Bros. Discovery is shutting down its Boomerang subscription streaming service in September, shifting most of the service's classic animated content to Max.

After a million plus downloads of the app, one of the cheapest and most affordable streaming apps created is getting the axe hammered down on them by the powers that be.

WBD, in an email sent Thursday to Boomerang consumers, confirmed the shutdown of the service's app and website as of September 30. The Boomerang streaming service, which launched in 2017 and retailed at $39.99 per year, offers classic animation from the Hanna-Barbera and Warner Bros. catalog,  as well as other family-friendly programming.

Here’s the text from the official email:

“We’re reaching out to let you know that Boomerang will be moving to Max, and as of September 30th, the Boomerang app and website will no longer be available. The exciting news is that your Boomerang subscription will automatically transfer to Max (Ad-Free) with no change to your subscription price until further notice!

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Logging In: Starting September 30th, you can log in to Max using your Boomerang email and password.
  • Kids Profile: We’ll have a Kids Profile set up in your account, allowing you to set parental controls and ratings restrictions.
  • Max Content: On Max, enjoy loads of Boomerang fan-favorites with Scooby, Bugs Bunny, Tom & Jerry and more! While some Boomerang content may not be available, you’ll have access to Max’s full catalog of iconic series, hit movies, fresh originals, breaking news, and family favorites including The Amazing World of Gumball, Teen Titans Go!, Lego Batman and more.
  • Billing: Throughout September, we’ll be transitioning your billing from Boomerang to Max.”

The biggest question now is how much of Boomerang’s content will actually transfer over to MAX. Observant fans will notice that some content has been disappearing from the Boomerang app over the last couple of years. For instance, the early 70’s Josie and the Pussy Cats cartoon was removed from “Boomerang” within the last year. Several Boomerang shows are already on the “MAX” service, but not all of them. Will the majority of programs provided through the service transfer over to the MAX service on October 1st, or just simply disappear?

Current Boomerang subscribers will not experience any price increase, as their subscriptions will be automatically converted to Max ad-free plans at the same cost. Additionally, subscribers will be able to use their existing Boomerang login credentials to access Max seamlessly.

This move reflects Warner Bros. Discovery’s ongoing efforts to streamline its streaming offerings and provide a more comprehensive viewing experience for its subscribers. The integration of Boomerang content into Max will expand the platform’s library of classic cartoons and family-friendly programming, making it a more attractive destination for animation enthusiasts of all ages. Ensuring that the legacy of classic animation continues to thrive.

Why The Public Should Forgive Chris Brown For 2009's Domestic Violence Against Rihanna

The decision to forgive someone is a personal and subjective choice. However, it is important to consider a few factors when discussing forgiveness in the context of the incident involving Chris Brown and Rihanna.

Firstly, it is essential to acknowledge the serious nature of the incident and the impact it had on Rihanna. Domestic violence is a grave and unacceptable behavior that should never be condoned.

That being said, forgiveness can be a complex and individual process. Some may argue that forgiveness can promote healing and growth for both the person who has caused harm and the person who has been harmed. It can also help prevent a cycle of anger and resentment.

However, forgiveness does not mean forgetting or excusing the actions that took place. It is crucial to hold individuals accountable for their actions and support efforts to address and prevent domestic violence.

Ultimately, forgiveness is a personal choice that varies from person to person. It is up to each individual, including the public, to decide if and when they are ready to forgive Chris Brown for his actions.

With that being said here are a few reasons the public should consider forgiving him:

Rihanna Forgave Him

Rihanna was a victim in the situation. She was one-half of the dramatic experience. Yet, she was one of the first one's to show him grace
and mercy. She called him, "The love of her life", during an interview with Oprah Winfrey for season 2 of Oprah's Next Chapter (later called Oprah's Prime). The episode filmed in Saint Michael, Barbados received 2 million views when it aired on the OWN Network August 19, 2012. Prior to the interview, Rihanna, invited Chris to participate on a remix of her song, "Birthday Cake", from her 2011 album Talk That Talk. The song was released to radio in December of 2011.

The Perspective of Chris

There's always two sides to every story. The media always spins their own narrative of a story. Chris has his own perspective on what happened that night aside from Rihanna and the public. It's always fair to hear a person out. We all hear, see, taste and experience things differently. There is no exception with Chris!
Brown detailed how he explain the incident in his 2017 documentary, Chris Brown: Welcome to My Life.

Chris is a Father Now of Girls

Breezy is a father now with daughters of his own. It is said that children changes a person's life. That it changes a person for the better. The album cover for Brown's 2015 album titled, Royalty, is named after his first born. The album cover is an intimate photograph of Brown and his eldest daughter gently snuggled up as she sleeps. Brown also dedicated the album track, "Little More (Royalty)", and it's video to his baby girl. Royalty (born 2014) was joined by her little sister Lovely in 2022 after the birth of their brother Aeko (born 2019).

Time To Move On / It Wasn't What YOU Thought

The relationship wasn't what you thought. This was a not a scenario where a female recording artist stayed in an abusive marriage for sixteen years to build a career for herself before she finally decided to escape with nothing. Rihanna was free to go as soon as the major event took place. The couple wasn't even engaged. They were just dating. Chris had other prospects he entertained during his relationship with Rihanna (as many men often do in relationships). Although, Rihanna obviously wanted to be THE ONLY ONE (as many women often do in relationships). After the turmoil Rihanna went back to her abuser (as many women often do in relationships). Yet, it ended again. It didn't work out so they both matured and moved on. Rihanna is now a mother and enjoying her own love life while Chris is doing the same.

We all make mistakes and Chris Brown has made his. None of us are perfect. None of us are above condemnation. However, Chris is entitled to his growing space and further development as a person during his own life journey. We as the people need to be respectful of that. We must not only forgive but be understanding of his struggles and pressures he's faced with. We must be considerable and generous with our love.

Majestic Wonder: Whitney Houston, Prince and Michael Jackson

The Majestic Wonder of Prince, Michael Jackson, and Whitney Houston Music has the power to touch our souls, captivate our hearts, and transport us to another world. And among the countless stars that have graced the stage, there are a few whose talent, charisma, and impact are nothing short of a majestic wonder. Prince, Michael Jackson, and Whitney Houston are three such legendary artists who have left an indelible mark on the music industry and continue to inspire generations.

Prince, known for his flamboyant style and eclectic music, redefined the boundaries of genre. With his mesmerizing performances and undeniable talent, he brought a unique blend of funk, rock, pop, and R&B to the forefront of popular music. His captivating stage presence, unmatched vocal range, and mastery of various instruments made him a true musical genius. From hits like "Purple Rain" to "Kiss," Prince's music continues to resonate with audiences, reminding us of the power of individuality and creative expression.

Michael Jackson, often referred to as the "King of Pop," was a force to be reckoned with. His unparalleled artistry, unmatched dance moves, and powerful vocals made him one of the most iconic figures in music history. Jackson's ability to seamlessly blend different genres, from pop to rock to soul, showcased his versatility and innovation. Songs like "Thriller," "Billie Jean," and "Beat It" not only topped the charts but also became cultural phenomena, solidifying his status as a true music legend.

Whitney as The Fairy Godmother in Cinderella (1997).

Whitney Houston, with her extraordinary voice and undeniable talent, captured the hearts of millions around the world. Her powerful and emotive vocals, combined with her soulful delivery, made her an icon in the realm of R&B and pop music. Houston's ability to convey raw emotion through her songs, such as "I Will Always Love You" and "Greatest Love of All," touched the hearts of listeners and solidified her as one of the greatest vocalists of all time. Her influence can still be felt in the voices of countless aspiring singers who aspire to reach the same level of artistry.

Maybe Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson and Prince were just a bunch of drug addicts, pedophiles and flamboyant make-up wearing homosexuals. Yet, they could have been a lot worse compared to a lot of people. The Leaving Neverland documentary painted Michael Jackson as an undercover pedophile who showered his victims and their families with all expense paid trips and shopping sprees and special access to him. Had it been another celebrity or person in general, those kids would have been kidnapped, sexually abused, tortured and murdered. Michael would gotten off scott free and their deaths still a mystery.

Whitney and Micheal together.

At least Whitney, Prince and Michael perpetrated positivity. They were generous and loving. They were mother and father figures in a lot of people's lives and careers. They were young, good looking and extraordinarily talented and gifted. So much so it would make your favorite rapper of today look like a complete failure. What sets these three artists apart is not just their immense talent, but also the impact they had on society.

Prince, Michael Jackson, and Whitney Houston were not only musicians but also cultural icons who broke barriers, challenged norms, and paved the way for future generations of artists. They used their platforms to address social issues, advocate for change, and inspire others to follow their dreams. An even more pleasing dynamic of these three artist's appeal was that they appeared to have a true sense of faith. An unconditional love for the creator of all things and desire to want to learn more about whatever faith in that light is. You have to have faith no matter what you go through and what happens in this world.

Michael, Whitney and Prince as "The Royal Triad".

We all hear rumblings about behind-the-scenes adventures of the so called rich and famous. We hear the tales of sexual assault and devil worship among other things. If that was the case these three musical giants may have made the biggest mistakes of their lives by becoming a major success. Although, they as well would have clearly seen that error for themselves and realized how important faith is. All three recording artists have recorded original inspirational and spiritual compositions as apart of their catalogs.

When the world lost these three iconic musicians, ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE. When prior to their deaths the world was in a more stable place. Nothing is ever a coincidence. Maybe it's giving them too much credit. However, anyone who was alive during their time should be able to see this point of view. The deaths of Prince, Michael Jackson, and Whitney Houston had a significant impact on the world. While their deaths were tragic, they also served as reminders of their immense talent and the contributions they made to the music industry.

However, some negative impacts can be identified. The world lost incredibly talented and influential artists, leaving a void in the music industry. The deaths of Prince, Michael Jackson, and Whitney Houston deeply affected their fans and followers around the world. Many people mourned their passing and experienced a sense of loss, as their music had touched the lives of millions.

Left to Right: Whitney Houston, her mother Cissy and Prince.

Their deaths also meant that they were unable to continue making any positive contribution to the world. This loss of potential future work is a negative impact in terms of what philanthropic efforts could have been produced. The deaths of these artists also shed light on the challenges and pressures faced by celebrities in the music industry. It highlighted the importance of addressing mental health issues and the need for support systems within the industry. As well, it may have driven many of their biggest fans insane.

Three of Best Selling Albums of all time by the trio.

While their deaths had negative impacts, it is essential to remember and honor the positive contributions they made to the world of music and the joy they brought to millions of people through their art. Their music continues to resonate with audiences of all ages, proving that their artistry transcends time. The majestic wonder of Prince, Michael Jackson, and Whitney Houston lies not only in their extraordinary talent but also in the lasting impact they have had on the world of music and beyond. Their legacies will forever be etched in the hearts of fans, reminding us of the power of music to unite, inspire, and heal.

To wrap up, Prince, Michael Jackson, and Whitney Houston were more than just musicians – they were visionaries, trailblazers, and true icons. Their immense talent, captivating performances, and unwavering dedication to their craft continue to inspire and awe audiences around the world. The majestic wonder of these three legends will forever be remembered and celebrated, as their contributions to the music industry and society as a whole are truly unparalleled.

Jefferson Pierce: Comic Book Icon

In the entertainment business, cartoon characters are treated as real celebrities and public figures with full careers and accolades to match.

Black Lightning (Jefferson "Jeff" Pierce) is a superhero appearing in American comic book published by DC Comics. The character, created by writer Tony Isabella with artist Trevor Von Eeden

The original candidate for DC Comics' first headlining black superhero was a character called the Black Bomber, a white racist who would turn into a black superhero under stress.

When the editor who had approved the Black Bomber left the company before the character had seen print, Tony Isabella (whose previous writing experience included Luke Cage, a black Marvel Comics superhero with his own title) was asked to salvage the character. Isabella convinced editors to instead use his Black Lightning character, which he had been developing for some time.

Black Lightning #1

Black Lightning's first appeared in the comic book, Black Lightning #1 in April of 1977.

Although not the first black superhero to be featured in DC Comics stories, Black Lightning was DC's first African-American superhero to headline his own comic book series. This took place during the Bronze Age of Comic Books. He provided representation for African-American readers who had long been underrepresented in the superhero genre. Making him a symbol of empowerment and a relatable role model for many black readers.

Thus, sending Mr. Pierce on a shooting rocket to stardom in the late '70s.

Isabella wrote the first 10 issues of Black Lightning before handing it over to Dennis O'Neil, and Trevor Von Eeden designed the character's original costume and drew the first 11 issues. Only one issue scripted by O'Neil came out before the series was canceled in 1978.

DC ran into financial trouble in 1978 which led them to cut back the majority of their titles causing the cancelation. This proved to be a blessing in disguise however, as the character went on instead to feature prominently in books like Justice League of America in DC's new slimmed down offering of titles, exposing him to more readers. Thus, marking his cross over period by entering various DC Comics storylines and team-ups, interacting with other iconic superheroes such as Superman, Batman, and The Justice League. This integration into the larger DC universe solidified his position as an important character in the superhero landscape.

Black Lightning was intended to appear on the '70s television series Super Friends, but disputes between DC and Black Lightning's creator, Tony Isabella, led to the creation of the show’s original character Black Vulcan.

Black Lightning, a DC Comics superhero, was important for several reasons. He was one of the first major African-American superheroes to have his own standalone comic book series. Created in 1977, he was a groundbreaking character and helped diversify the world of superhero storytelling. Black Lightning's character also addressed social issues and themes related to race, discrimination, and urban crime, providing representation and empowerment for readers who may not have seen themselves reflected in mainstream superhero stories previously. Additionally, the character has had a lasting impact, appearing in various storylines, team-ups, and adaptations across different forms of media.

Black Lightning offered a positive and dignified representation of black people and black culture through several key aspects.

He defied racial stereotypes often associated with comic book characters of color at the time.

He was an accomplished educator and principal of a high school. His portrayal emphasized the value of education and intelligence, debunking negative stereotypes often associated with black characters being limited to sidekick or secondary roles.

With a strong moral compass: Black Lightning was depicted as a hero driven by a strong sense of justice, responsibility, and protecting his community. He prioritized doing what was right and defending the innocent, embodying positive values. Overcoming adversity, storyline soften saw him fight against social injustices, inequality, and systemic issues plaguing his city. His struggles and triumphs represented the resilience and determination of black individuals fighting against adversity.

In 1995, a new Black Lightning series began with art by Eddy Newell and again written by Tony Isabella, who was fired after the eighth issue and replaced with Australian writer Dave de Vries. The series was canceled five issues after Isabella left the title.

A Black Lightning: Year One six-issue limited series, written by Jen Van Meter and illustrated by Cully Hamner saw a bi-weekly release in 2009, and was nominated for two Glyph Awards in 2010.

Black Lightning: Year One

The character's backstory and interactions with his family showcased the importance of familial bonds and community unity. Black Lightning's role as a mentor and father figure further emphasized the values of love, support, and guidance.

Black Lightning later goes on to father two superhero daughters, Thunder and Lightning, and work closely alongside Batman as a founding member of the Outsiders superhero team.

Black Lightning's daughters

Black Lightning has proven a popular character for DC and was ranked 85th overall on IGN's "Top 100 Comic Books Heroes" list in 2011. The character has been adapted into various media, including animated television series, video games, and comic strips. The character and his stories were adapted for live-action Black Lightning TV series, which ran from 2018 to 2022.

In summary, Black Lightning's significance lies in his groundbreaking influence on subsequent black superheroes. He paved the way for increased diversity and inclusivity within the genre, making a lasting impact on popular culture. As well as, set an example to be followed by black people in the real world.
